Writing in Kindergarten

Hello families!

We have been working on writing this last week. Writing in kindergarten can be expressed with pictures, letters, words, or sentences. Each child is writing at their own level during writing time.

We sometimes start writing time with a story. A story can spark our interests and allow us to think of ideas for writing. Sometimes, we have a free write time where we can write about anything.

Today, we read "If you Take a Mouse to School". We talked about two words with this story; exhausted and energetic. The mouse in the story was very energetic and never exhausted. Then, we went to work writing about a time when we felt either exhausted or energetic.

Last, we got together at the carpet and shared our writing. Today, three children were able to sit in front, share what they wrote, and ask for compliments or questions. Since we ran out of time, the rest of the children shared with a partner.

We will try to do this most days during our writing time. We may also have little mini-lessons about letters, sounds, words, or sentences.

Thanks for reading!
