Pattern eBooks

We have had a busy week of pattern exploration. We started by finding patterns in the real-world and then began creating our own. We also played a game where someone started a pattern and we were given five minutes to make them as long as possible.

Our most recent pattern project was to create our own pattern eBooks. This was our first time using My Story, an eBook maker that is simple for kindergarten students to use. The children created these books on their own, requiring just a little help for launching them to the internet. These are some hard-working kids! We will become even better at using My Story during the year and our books will become more detailed. Have fun reading!

Sorting in Kindergarten

We worked on a new math goal today. We are practicing sorting objects by various traits. We sorted by size, shape, and color as a class. Then, we separated and worked on sorting with a collection of math pieces. The children did a great job and everyone was able to sort and explain why they sorted the way they did. We then discussed whether or not they could sort the pieces in a different way.

Writing in Kindergarten

Hello families!

We have been working on writing this last week. Writing in kindergarten can be expressed with pictures, letters, words, or sentences. Each child is writing at their own level during writing time.

We sometimes start writing time with a story. A story can spark our interests and allow us to think of ideas for writing. Sometimes, we have a free write time where we can write about anything.

Today, we read "If you Take a Mouse to School". We talked about two words with this story; exhausted and energetic. The mouse in the story was very energetic and never exhausted. Then, we went to work writing about a time when we felt either exhausted or energetic.

Last, we got together at the carpet and shared our writing. Today, three children were able to sit in front, share what they wrote, and ask for compliments or questions. Since we ran out of time, the rest of the children shared with a partner.

We will try to do this most days during our writing time. We may also have little mini-lessons about letters, sounds, words, or sentences.

Thanks for reading!

Be Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Brave!

We discussed four important words over the last two weeks: safe, respectful, responsible, brave. The children came up with many examples for each word and we read stories that demonstrated these behaviors. We then took pictures of these behaviors with our iPads to display in our classroom. Keep in mind that the children took these pictures themselves and did a great job! Here are some of the pictures:

 We hold our iPads safely.

We walk slowly in the classroom.

We work hard during the school day.

 We are kind to eachother.

We listen with our whole body.

We sit safely in our chairs.

 We walk with slow feet.

We listen to whoever is talking.

We move around the room slowly.

We sit safely and are kind to others.

and most important...

We are brave like kindergarteners!

Welcome to a New School Year!

We have been busy and very productive our first week. We have started to learn each other's names and have been very respectful when playing and working. We have discussed some very important words (brave, respectful, safe, responsible) as did the other classes in the building.

These children are kind and ready to learn. We will be starting to settle into a routine next week and still taking breaks as needed throughout the day. We have had a few children fall asleep, so they are still using a bit of a rest time.

We will keep you updated on our events throughout the week. Have a wonderful weekend!

Tic Toc Tic Toc

Time is flying, less than five weeks until the kiddos return! Yeah!
